We are very proud of our Foundation Stage at Weeth and work hard to promote learning both inside and outside of the classroom. The children have a free choice to decide where they would like to learn each day using the different areas and resources available to them.
Foundation Stage Curriculum
In Foundation we can choose our own themes and topics that usually last half a term and these depend upon the interests of our children. It also enables to take account of the seasons, weather and seasonal events like Easter and Christmas.
This term we have chosen the topic of ‘Who am I’ and have been learning the story ‘Owl Babies’ which is a beautifully illustrated book all about a family of owls.
Life in FS2 has a clear routine and is well structured to make the most of time spent at school. Children make use of the class visual timetable to help them during the day. Each day consist of three guided sessions where the focus will be English, Phonics and maths. These are short sessions planned at the beginning and end of morning and afternoon to allow the children to participate in uninterrupted child initiated activities during the day where they can plan, do and review their learning.
At Weeth we use an online system for recording our children's Learning journals. This gives parents an opportunity to view their children's progress daily helping to act as a partner in their child's education right from the beginning. They can also see their child's next steps and help them work towards these at home. Parents are also encouraged to add their own photographs and comments to enable all stakeholders to have a role in the learning journey. Parents are offered termly meeting to discuss their child's progress and opportunities to view journals in stay and play sessions and after school.
